The mamaRoo bounces up and down and sways from side to side, just like parents do when comforting their babies.
More about the motions...
When the 4moms company set out to create the mamaRoo, they put motion sensors on moms and dads and measured the ways they moved to comfort their babies. While there's no one universal movement that everybody makes (that would have been too easy), there are certain types of calming motions every parents uses. That's why the mamaRoo has five different motions settings. Each one is a variation on the up-and-down and side-to-side movements our research found parents making over and over again to soothe their infants. It's not just a tagline: the mamaRoo really does "move like you do".
The 4moms chose the mamRoo's speeds for two reasons: safety and comfort. Making those choices was a challenge, though, because there's a very real difference between how a motion looks how it feels. Think about the swinging pirate ship rides at amusement parks: they look like they've moving slowing, but step on and you'll find that's not the case. The mamaRoo's motions were chosen for how they feel, and most importantly, for how they feel to an infant. What seems slow to an adult may be just right for a baby, and that's what we've seen time and time again with the mamaRoo. They've done extensive field research, and babies consistenly love the mamaRoo and find it very soothing.
When they were researching infant visual stimulation, we found that the most important facest were the visuals themselves and their proximity to the baby. Their toy ball's black and white patterns maximize visuals stimulations, and newborns can only focus their eyes on objects 8 - 12 inches away from them, so they designed their mobile to remain at that distance from a baby's faces.
They're very familiar with the zoo aminals mobiles that rotate automaticallly, and in thier research they found that this is really more entertaining for parents that it is for babies. Infants younger that eight weeks aren't ready to play with toys yet and like just to look at them. Newborns and older babies alike are able to concentrate on the mamaRoo's mobile and its visually stimulating graphics because it remains within their field of vision and doesn't disappear, which can be confusing when you haven't developed an understanding of object permanence. Plus, the mobile moves with the mamRoo and thuus with th ebaby, which is very soothing. But perhaps most importantly, our field of research has consistenly shown that babies love the mobile.
This isn't just another infant seat
Like all 4moms products, the mamaRoo is truly remarkable. From planning to production, it was shaped by the expertise of designers, doctors, nurses, and most importantly, hundreds of parents. Our team used motion sensors to measure movements of real moms and dads as they soothed their babies, and guess what we found? Parents don’t vibrate like bouncy seats or swing like swings. They bounce and sway. So we built the mamaRoo to do just that - to move “like you do.”
